Periodontal disease is an epidemic in the United States. According to recent statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), half of all American adults currently suffer from periodontal disease, and half of those have periodontitis, the more serious form of the disease. That’s nearly 65 million American adults with periodontitis!
And that’s only part of the problem. Ongoing studies and research are showing a significant link between periodontal disease and other serious health conditions, including strokes, heart disease, and diabetes. Periodontal disease has also been linked to complications during pregnancy and babies being born with low birth weights.
